“Create
a strong, sustainable, self-reliant local economy where prosperity
is shared by all.”
Cwmaman like many communities in the valleys has suffered
a slow deterioration in its retail and business fortunes with the
closure of the local mines and the continuing decline in the manufacturing
sector. Due to its isolation the retail sector has suffered further
decline with the onset and increased prosperity in the retail sector
in Aberdare. This decline has resulted in many closed and derelict
shop premises within the village. The continued decline over the last five years seems
to have bottomed out with a key turning point being the £3.4m
redevelopment of the community enterprise Cwmaman Public Hall &
Institute. This has proved to be a catalyst for change by providing
much needed jobs in the community and attracting up to 5000 visits
a week to the village through its arts & leisure, and conference
facilities. It is also home to the Cwmaman Silver Band and over 40
clubs and societies. In 2003/4 we have seen further investment in
shops and the Bonceyff Pub as well as the maintenance of existing
companies in the area.
