Priority 7: opportunities for young people

“To provide young people with the opportunities and services that will enable them to fulfil their individual potential and become valuable contributors to their community”.

Why?
Until the formation of Communities First, there had been no formal Youth Provision in the village for many years. The Community Audit raised concerns about the lack of provision, facilities and opportunities for young people. Problems related to drug and alcohol abuse and community safety were highlighted as was the need for access to relevant services and advice.

We will:

Provide an intermediate part time Youth Facility in the village and use the facility to improve the access to services, information and advice.
Undertake a feasibility study for a further youth facility in Cwmaman.
To complete capital works on the Band Hut to benefit young bands and other youth events.
Provide a programme of activities for young people by working in partnership with youth service providers and others.
Establish a combined method approach so that young people have a range of channels through which to influence and be affected by the Communities Regeneration process.
Provide the levels of support needed to develop the skills for young people to become effective participants.

Targets:

Secure core funding for a part time Youth Worker and two Assistant Youth Worker posts.
Establish a Youth Club to operate from Moriah Aman Youth Hall.
Secure funding and refurbish Moriah Aman Youth Hall.
Provide programmes of activities for young people in partnership with youth organisations and statutory providers.
Develop and co-ordinate methods by which young people have channels to influence and by guided by Communities First.
Refurbish and sound proof the Band Hall for use by local bands and youth activities.
